They work as a worldwide trend report, creating a network of shared influences and global trends not dissimilar to the ones that fashion designers are used to cope with. Not to be intended as simple copy and paste solutions, these dominant trends are useful to the designers to better understand cultural forces that shape visual taste, and to keep our design\u00a0sense always fresh.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the dominant visual\u00a0trends are linked to the <strong>mobile revolution<\/strong>. Each design\u00a0project\u00a0has today the need to work\u00a0properly\u00a0on the small-sized displays of smartphones and tablets. Graphic artifacts must\u00a0keep\u00a0readability and recognition, whether at the minimum size of a favicon or\u00a0at the\u00a0large sizes of environmental branding. It&#8217;s not surprising that <strong>flat\u00a0design style<\/strong>, sponsored\u00a0by\u00a0major mobile players (Apple and Google), has managed to establish itself\u00a0outside of the digital world, influencing print and advertising.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe\u00a0\u00a0to contrast this \u00a0minimalist style made of round icons and pastel colors, we are now spotting a bold resurgence\u00a0of\u00a0<strong>hand-drawn lettering<\/strong>, <strong>script typography<\/strong> and <strong>calligraphic illustration<\/strong> with\u00a0<strong>vintage overtones<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>These\u00a0are <strong>our predictions<\/strong> for typography\u00a0trends for next year, accompanied by a selection of some of the best and most downloaded\u00a0fonts of 2014.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.Bold\u00a0calligraphy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are witnessing a big rise in script fonts that mimic the smooth curves and bold flourishes\u00a0of calligraphic brush or blackboard lettering.<br \/>\nAmong our favorites <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dafont.com\/it\/wolf-in-the-city.font\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Wolf in the City<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0by Maelle Keita,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfonts.com\/fonts\/sudtipos\/bowling-script\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Bowling Script<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0by Sudtipos\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfonts.com\/fonts\/dstype\/aparo\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Aparo<\/strong> b<\/a>y\u00a0DSType Foundry.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/zetafonts.com\/another-shabby\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Another Shabby<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/zetafonts.com\/armonioso\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Armonioso<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zetafonts.com\/bulletto\">Bulletto<\/a><\/strong> are some of our creations that follow this trend.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kmzero.com\/sites\/default\/files\/field\/image\/00fonttrend01a_0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also on the rise are\u00a0<strong>monoline script<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0cursive fonts\u00a0drawn with a constant line weight.\u00a0This style is matched by\u00a0monoline logo and illustration design, one of the main trends in\u00a02014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.logolounge.com\" target=\"_blank\">Logolounge<\/a>\u00a0logo report.<\/p>\n<p>Among our favorites are the monoline fonts are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfonts.com\/fonts\/keightley-ryan\/sparkle-script\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Sparkle Script<\/strong><\/a> (Ryan Keightley),\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dafont.com\/it\/little-days.font\" target=\"_blank\">Little Days<\/a> <\/strong>(West Wind Fonts) and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfonts.com\/fonts\/argentina-lian-types\/selfie\/\" target=\"_blank\">Selfie<\/a> <\/strong>(Li\u00e1n Types).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kmzero.com\/sites\/default\/files\/field\/image\/00fontreportmonoline.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>2. Sex &amp; the font<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We see around more and more\u00a0fonts and brand logos taking inspiration from North American industrial graphics and signage of the first half of the last century. The result is a graphic style that combines simplicity, geometry and vintage feel\u00a0&#8211; widely used\u00a0in the field of food branding.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kmzero.com\/sites\/default\/files\/field\/image\/00fonttrend02a_0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The most famous typeface in\u00a0this style is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.typography.com\/fonts\/gotham\/overview\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Gotham<\/strong><\/a>, designed in 2000 by Tobias Frere-Jones. Inspired by New York signage\u00a0and by shapes of modernist fonts like Futura, is well known for its use in the Obama presidential campaign of 2008. Among his followers most popular:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.behance.net\/gallery\/17625495\/NEPTUNE-FREE-Typeface\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Brandon Grotesque<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(HDV) and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.houseind.com\/fonts\/neutraface\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Neutra<\/strong><\/a> (Neutra (House Industries), probably the most abused typeface of 2014. Our take on this\u00a0style that could be called <strong>deco-grotesque<\/strong>\u00a0is a slightly\u00a0rounded\u00a0grotesque called\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/zetafonts.com\/cocogoose\" target=\"_blank\">Cocogoose<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kmzero.com\/sites\/default\/files\/field\/image\/00fonttrend04.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><strong>3. Hipster types<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Finally, among the typographical trends of 2014\u00a0that\u00a0we are sure to see in the next year, there are those of matrix hipster: <strong>geometric sans serifs<\/strong>, somtimes with <strong>runic feel<\/strong>,\u00a0and <strong>ultra heavy bodoni<\/strong>, sometimes enriched by the <strong>dazzle effect.<\/strong><br \/>\nIn this context, the well-founded popularity of flat design and its style of illustration will not only benefit the characters without thanks and geometric design, chosen almost by default for infographics and visualizations only text data. The need for full and condensed forms, which help in the management of space, thus ensuring the success to historical characters such as DIN Linotype and his modern followers as Dense Charles Daoud and Bebas Neue Ryoichi Tsunekawa.<\/p>\n<p>Will meet this year also the effects dazzle, obtained by removing the thin part of the Bodoni in great contrast as the font Glamor Hendrick Rolandez and Goku Stencil Anthony James, and characters inspired geometric-rune, products immoderate love for triangular shapes the current generation of graphics, such as\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.behance.net\/gallery\/17625495\/NEPTUNE-FREE-Typeface\" target=\"_blank\">Neptune<\/a> <\/strong>by David Massara, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/fontfabric.com\/baron-free-font\/\" target=\"_blank\">Baron<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0by Frank Hemmekame and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/fontfabric.com\/high-tide-free-fonts\/\" target=\"_blank\">High Tide<\/a> by<\/strong>\u00a0Filipe Rolim.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kmzero.com\/sites\/default\/files\/field\/image\/00fonttrend03_0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We expect a 2015 full of <strong>nostalgia calligraphy<\/strong> and <strong>vintage typography<\/strong> &#8211; strongly influenced by vernacular roots. So, better be on the look out for old shop signage and curious typography on the streets to get some inspiration &#8211; as was done beautifully by Louise Fili in her book on the italian vernacular signage, \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.louisefili.com\/books\/grafica-della-strada\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Grafica della Strada<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Creative trends move fast.
