Fight for Kindness 2024:
A Global Typography Showcase for Kindness

In its 3rd edition, the non-profit initiative exhibits over 500 posters and messages across international cities and online.

Florence, October 22, 2024

As World Kindness Day (November 13) approaches, the global Fight for Kindness showcase returns to promote kindness through typography. Sponsored by the renowned type foundry Zetafonts and organized by its academic project TypeCampus, this award-winning non-profit initiative unites emerging and established talent who believe in the power of creativity to drive social change.

Centered on the theme "Unexpectedness," the third edition’s call – free to enter and closed on May 31 – encouraged participants to explore how surprising acts of kindness can have a transformative impact in promoting a virtuous and contagious response. With over 500 submissions from 355 authors across 23 languages and scripts, 2024 marked the largest and most diverse response yet.

Exhibitions and contributions
Selected works will be showcased in international exhibitions, from Cairo to Budapest, and Plovdiv, starting in Cairo, on the occasion of the Egypt Creative Industry Summit. All entries are also available for viewing in the Fight for Kindness 2024 online gallery and will feature in the annual publication, set for release in January. The collection includes posters and messages from invited leading creatives such as Debbie Millman, Ariane Spanier, Héctor Auyso, Baugasm, Kiel DM, Simone Massoni, Kinda Ghannoum, Hala Al Afsaa from the Syrian Design Archive, Kateryna Korolevtseva, and other influential names.

Francesco Canovaro, CEO of Zetafonts, expressed pride in the initiative’s growth: "We are incredibly proud to renew our support for Fight for Kindness and see how much it has grown in just three years. The overwhelming response from the design community shows that - fortunately - kindness is a theme that resonates around the world, recognizing typography as a powerful and universal language to communicate it. By promoting diverse messages of empathy and connection, we hope to inspire people to reflect on how creativity can spark positive change in society."

Debora Manetti, Co-Founder of Zetafonts and Program Director at TypeCampus, who launched the project, added: "I began considering a project centered around kindness during a difficult time in my life when small, thoughtful acts served as a powerful reminder of a simple truth: the values of kindness can heal and connect us all. It fosters empathy, trust, and respect—values that seem to be fading in today's fast-paced world. As both an art and a tool, typography holds immense power to reshape how these values are perceived and experienced. Through our typographic choice, we can elevate messages of kindness, ensuring they catch the eye - each in their distinctive way - and resonate deeply with people. Typography turns these messages into living, visual experiences—ones that inspire action, linger in memory and spread organically. Our goal is to amplify typographic design as a force for making kindness more visible, tangible, and actionable in everyday life.”

Team and partners
Working across continents and time zones, Debora Manetti of Zetafonts and Typecampus developed and leads the initiative from Florence, collaborating with New Delhi-based designer and project manager Shrishti Vajpai, with support from Zetafonts co-founders Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini and Francesco Canovaro, along with the entire Zetafonts team. Gerald Thür (aka Gerry Thee) served as an ambassador this year, contributing to broadening the project’s reach through bespoke motion graphics.

Fight for Kindness is backed by leading design institutions and media outlets such as Type Directors Club, C2Awards, Communication Arts, Indigo Awards, Typeroom, AWDA, You Creative Media, DNA Paris, People of Print, Farmani Group, House of Lucie, Hadath Alkhatt, OFFF Festival, Slanted Magazine, D&AD and the European Art Directors Club (now part of The One Club) and more.
